Mindful Moments with food and other things
“Breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen, dine like a pauper”
I love this quote, although I must admit my dinners are usually pretty awesome too. But I love it because it makes a ceremony of eating breakfast, something I would advocate to everybody.
After all, the word breakfast literally means ‘breaking the fast’ or ending a period of fasting. While you sleep, it is likely 8-12 hours since you last ate, so you need energy as soon as you wake up, keep you well and fit.
Having a good breakfast helps with concentration, making decisions, multi-tasking, managing stress, keeps your emotions balanced, and enables your body to heal and care for itself.
A solid list of reasons to practice good breakfast habits.
And to go a step further, why not make the most of the energy and experience that food gives you, and practice a few mindful moments for one meal a day.
This can be whichever meal works for you….lunchtime at work springs to mind!
Key points are:
- Take joy in what you are eating, have something you really like
- Switch off any distractions – no TV, no smart phone, no emails – for 10 minutes
- Eat slowly, chewing your food properly
- Just quietly appreciate the act of re-fuelling your body, and nothing else
You’ll be surprised at how different your food tastes, and you’ll feel refreshed and calm to carry on with your day.
Bloom Café Pod
Once the development for BLOOM begins, we will prepare the growing areas and gardens to produce our own vegetables, fruits, herbs and spices, and these will supply the Bloom Café Pod and Bloom Tea Room, by the end of Year 1, and in time we will create our own line of preserves, chutneys, pickles and juices.
All other food and drinks will be freshly prepared on site, with produce from local farmers and suppliers, minimising the ‘food miles’ carbon footprint.
Through the development of our Eco-Therapy Gardens, Bloom will attract natural habitats of birds, bee populations and wildlife, and will increase the bio-diversity in the area.
There will be several event spaces around Bloom, as well as meeting rooms, conference areas, and an Amphitheatre in the grounds. These spaces can be hired out, and fully catered, to host workshops, meetings, evenings of culture and music, inspiring talks, and much more.
